冬季的吉林，是冰雪观光的乐园。吉林雾凇，俗称树挂或雪柳，与桂林山水、云南石林、长江三峡并称为中国四大自然奇观。流经吉林市区的松花江，历严寒而不结冰，两岸苍松翠柳，凝霜挂雪，形成冰清玉洁的雾凇美景。
在吉林还可观赏五颜六色的冰灯、彩灯、河灯和焰火。吉林城区内有冰上运动中心，北山、朱雀山冬季专门开辟旅游雪场和冰上游乐场，松花湖滑雪场距市区24公里，北大湖滑雪场距市区56公里。游人可以畅玩马拉雪橇、狗拉雪橇、鹿拉雪橇和滑雪，惊喜于雪上运动之妙。
