(一)基本情况
敦义乡位于大邑西门距县城晋原镇六公里，紧连佛教胜地高堂寺，辖14个村，137个社，总人口24516人；全乡幅员面积38平方公里，成温邛、鄢新路贯穿全境，交通便利，通讯电力设施齐备，现有企业总数277家，其中县、乡重点企业9家，1999年全乡国民生产总值9319万元人民币，人均低收入2658元人民币。
(二)地形、地貌
由于我乡位于龙门山脉前，地形属南低北高，分为丘陵、平坝两大地貌单元组成，境内海拔最高为750米，最低为540米，其中丘陵辖6个村，57个农业合作社13000余亩山地面积，坝区辖8个村，80个农业生产合作社。
(三)气候条件
我乡境内由于受地形地貌影响，立体气候相对比较明显，与全县气候特点基本一致，一年四季分明，春季气温回升快，年平均气温16.4℃，年平均日照时数1092小时，年均降雨量1100mm，无霜期为284天。
(四)水利条件
全乡除粗石河、西河两大水系流经全境外，还有50年代建成的金洞子水库一座，拥有110万立方米蓄水量，加之天然降水，能满足农业生产灌溉用水和非农业用水。
(五)土壤成分
境内土壤除少量黄土坝酸、粘瘦外，其于为紫色土、黑沙土富含钙质，宜种度大，适于各种作物生长，且保蓄水能力强，可抵御各种自然灾害。
