表层结构(surfaee strueture)美国心理语言学家乔姆斯基(C homsky，N.，1928一)关于语言结构的专用名词。他提出，构成语言的每一个句子都有两个层次结构，即表层结构和深层结构。表层结构的作用是通过语音学上的规则，了解句子的语音，而深层结构的作用则是通过语义说明的规则，了解句子的语义。两者有联系又有区别。深层结构、语义，是由表层结构、语音转换而来的。同一表层结构可转换为不同的深层结构，相同的语音可转换为不同的语义;不同的表层结构也可转换为同一深层结构，相同的意义也可用不同的语音来表达。也有人把个性的心理结构分为表层结构和深层结构两个层次。前者指气质、性格、能力等个性特征，后者则指个性的倾向性、价值观、世界观等。 (王启康撰彭瑞龄审)
