钱塘江涌潮 发生在中国杭州湾钱塘江口的潮水暴涨的现象。状似直立的水墙,滚滚而来。钱塘江河口的潮差很大,河口呈宽阔的漏斗状且河床平缓,致使太平洋的潮波传播到这一带时,潮差剧增。传入杭州湾的潮波,在钱塘江河口同河流相遇,波面受到较大的阻力,波峰前沿出现破碎现象,又遇水下沙坝,使涌潮分成东湖和南湖两支,继续向河口推进。在尖山和海宁之间,有时能激起10多米高的水柱。破碎的潮峰呈滚滚白浪,高1~2米,以4~6米/秒的速度传播,潮位在短时间内涨达2米以上。每年临近秋分时节 ,恰逢大潮,又正值雨季,平均海平面升高,在海宁的潮差可高达9米,涌潮的现象异常突出。若遇强劲的东风或东南风,涌潮景象更加壮观。
