The Empirical Study on the Growth and Decomposition of China’s Agricultural Productivity from 1978 to 2004: Evidence from Nonparameter HMB Productivity Index;

This paper is based on the panel data of input-output of hog production in Jilin province in 1989—2005,the methods of HMB index are used to analyze the changes of TFP.

The results obtained are as follows:scale efficiency change(SC),pure tech-efficiency change(EC)and the change of technological progress(TC)are the main resources of maize production TFP growth;the differences of HMB indexes by region are mainly due to the different indexes of pure tech-efficiency change.

Through DEA method of the productivity index,the agricultural productivity levels and changing trend of 29 provinces of China from 1982 to 2004 were measured and agricultural productivity levels of different regions were compared.

The non-parametric productivity index is used to measure the transition degree of China′s industrial growth patterns quantitatively.

Moreover,Malmquist index was applied to evaluate the alteration of efficiency.

Malmquist productivity index is not consistent when refer to difference production technology,the reason of which is technical change,one component of Malmquist index corresponding to shifts at the frontier level,varies with different input-output datum.

In order to further understand the growth duration of Chinese economic growth,the paper uses the Malmquist productivity index,and the panel data of 1978—2007 to make an empirical test of different areas and growth stage to evaluate the question.

In order to study the economic growth of papermaking and paper product industry,based on Malmquist productivity index,the changes and elements of total factor productivity of papermaking and paper product industry in China from 1999 to 2005 were calculated in the paper.
