恒星摄谱仪的一种附属装置。在高色散摄谱工作中，由于入射狭缝的宽度比星像直径窄得多，大部分光线被挡在狭缝之外而得不到利用（见图a）。通过像切分器将星像切成若干与狭缝等宽的窄条，然后将这些窄条全部送入摄谱仪，从而提高了仪器的聚光能力。1938年，美国鲍恩首先设计一种迭片式像切分器。以后又出现若干种形式的像切分器。图b是其中一种：厚度为星像直径的1/匇的薄玻片，上端为45°斜面，星光从这里垂直入射。薄玻片同一块45°棱镜的斜面在光学上结成一体，斜面上有一条略为倾斜的窄刻槽。星光在窄刻槽区和玻片的空气界面上被全反射。当星光开始同交界线接触时，星像依次被切成窄条穿过棱镜进入摄谱仪。这种形式和鲍恩结构的特点是，各窄条没有一个共同焦面。它们只适用于望远镜相对口径小于1/30的摄谱仪。理查森设计的一种像切分器，克服了这一缺点。这种像切分器所产生的各窄条在光谱面上首尾相接，摄谱时无需展宽就能提高仪器的聚光能力。这对应用光电倍增管的光谱工作较为有效。
