1841年Otto首次描述此病，1912年Stein开始采用此名称。较少见。可能系原发于肌肉的常染色体隐性遗传或者脊髓前角细胞变性，加上胎儿宫内受压，导致肌肉发育障碍、纤维变性和脂肪变性，韧带缩短，关节囊挛缩。两侧上、下肢均可波及，甚少波及脊柱和颞颌关节。许多关节僵硬，活动受限，甚至发生脱位。上肢表现为肩关节内旋，桡骨头脱位，前臂旋前，腕和手指屈曲，拇指内收至掌内。下肢则表现为髋关节脱位或处于屈曲外展外旋位，膝呈圆柱状或反屈脱位，足呈马蹄内翻。状如“木偶”。早期可手术松解、石膏矫正，继而理疗和夹板固定。骨发育成熟后可行截骨、肌腱移位等。
