一个圆沿着一条直线作无滑动的滚动，圆周上的一点画出来的曲线叫作旋转线，也叫摆线。旋轮线的形状是一拱一拱的，只要圆不停地旋转，画出来的旋轮线就会不断延长。容易知道，旋轮线的每一拱的横向长度都等于圆的周长。一个圆也可以沿着一个固定的圆作无滑动的滚动。在滚动过程中，滚动的圆圆周上的点所形成的曲线也是摆线。当滚动圆在固定的圆内部滚动时，叫做内摆线；在固定的圆的外部滚动时，叫做外摆线。
