北斗 Big Dipper 大熊座中排成勺形的7颗星。从勺子前端到勺柄依次为大熊座 a、β、γ、δ、ε 、ζ 和η ,相应的中名为天枢、天璇、天玑、天权、玉衡、开阳和摇光。连接天璇和天枢并延长约 5 倍,便是亮度与北斗七星相差不大的小熊座a ,即北极星。北斗离北天极不远,非常容易识别。因为不同时间、不同季节勺柄指向不同,因此北斗可以帮助人们辨别方向和估计时间。北斗七星离地球的距离不等, 大致在60~200多光年之间。由于恒星自行,北斗七星的形状会缓慢变化。
