性质:λ大肠杆菌的一种温和噬菌体。蝌蚪状,属部细管状,不可收缩,头部为二十面体衣壳,其内包裹一长线状双链DNA分子(46500bp),因分子两端各有一含12个核苷酸的黏性末端,故又可黏合成环状分子。其生活史有裂解循环和溶源循环两途径。前一途径可导致宿主裂解,释放出约100个子代噬菌体;后一途径则以前噬菌体形式整合在宿主细胞裂解。在其已定位的60余个基因中,只有一半左右属生命活动中的必要基因,另一部分为非必要基因,可被外源基因取代。此外,λ噬菌体还有宿主范围窄、感染率高(近100%)等优点。因此,它是当代遗传工程中携带外源基因的一种优良载体。
