上海交通大学网络教育学院于2000年7月经国家教育部批准成立，开展现代远程教育试点，是上海交通大学的下属学院，由学校主要领导直接负责。根据教育部有关文件，上海交通大学网络教育学院在专业设置、招生计划、录取标准、教学组织、文凭颁发等方面具有广泛的办学自主权。 我院与其它平行学院均采用学分制，学制四年，具有学士学位授予权，拥有硕士点。学院目前设有计算机科学与技术、国际经济与贸易、电子商务、行政管理、金融学、工商管理、英语（商务）、艺术设计、会计、食品、园林等11个本科专业，招收非全日制大专起点本科生和高中起点本科生；同时，学院举办计算机应用专业的研究生课程班。 为了适应国家、社会对于优秀专门人才的需求，扩大高等教育规模，进一步提高教育质量和效益，学院利用高速专用电信网络及专用卫星网络在上海地区建设了包括江苏路、天宝路、浦三路、等在内的13个市内教学点，与宁夏大学等合作建立了若干个远程教学站。学院将利用天地结合的教学站发展模式将上海交通大学的优秀教学资源输送到全国各地。 学校招收高等专科（含高职）起点的本科生（专升本），自主组织入学考试、择优录取。“专升本”基本学制实行学分制教学，学制最短两年，成绩有效期5年。学生修完教学计划规定的课程和其他教学环节，成绩合格，获得相应的学分，在教育部电子注册，颁发国家承认的上海交通大学毕业文凭（在专业名称后加注“网络教育”四字）；符合条件者由上海交通大学授予学士学位。学院同时招收本科起点的“研究生课程进修班”。 “研究生课程进修班”招生专业为“计算机应用”，基本学习年限为一年半，取得规定学分后，可获得上海交大研究生课程进修班结业证书，符合条件者可申请工学硕士学位。 学院凭借上海交大雄厚的师资力量、优质的教学资源、先进的技术装备，交大教师在校内教学点授课，学生可就近、集中在各教学点学习，采取传统面授教学与网络教学相结合的方式。学院采取弹性学制和学分制管理，业余制授课时间为晚间和双休日。“质量是网络教育的生命线”，上海交大网络教育学院将本着为社会、为学生服务的宗旨，致力于教学质量的保证和提高。 “全面贯彻落实《面向２１世纪教育振兴行动计划》，推动现代远程教育工程，积极发展高等教育”，上海交大网络教育学院正积极利用现代先进的网络教育技术，积极拓展现代远程教育，致力于为社会培养优秀的应用型专业人才。
