Characteristics of water consumption by transpiration of three main afforestation shrub species in Beijing,namely,Ligustrum x vicaryi,Euonymus japonicus and Buxus microphylla,were systematically studied by using such equipments as Lico 6 400 Portable Photosynthesis System and BP-3 400 Precision Balance.

From the combined concern of ecological and economic benefits, some indigenous shrub species of southwestern Yunnan were recommended.
