【来源】
植物空心莲子草Alternanthera philoxeroides (Mart.) Griseb.的地上部分。
【植物形态】
多年生宿根草本。茎基部匍匐、上部伸展，中空，有分枝，节腋处疏生细柔毛。叶对生，长圆状倒卵形或倒卵状披针形，先端圆钝，有芒尖，基部渐狭，表面有贴生毛，边缘有睫毛。头状花序单生于叶腋，总花梗长1～6cm；苞片和小苞片干膜质，宿存；花被片5，白色，不等大；雄蕊5，基部合生成杯状，退化雄蕊顶端分裂成3～4窄条；子房倒卵形，柱头头状。花期5～11月。 生于池沼、水沟。原产巴西；北京、江苏、浙江、江西等地引种，后逸为野生。
【采制】
10～11月采收，除去杂质，洗净，晒干或鲜用。
【化学成分】
含黄酮甙、三萜皂甙、有机酸、酚性成分、香豆素、糖、脂肪、蛋白质、6-甲氧基木犀草素、7-a-L-鼠李糖甙（7-a-L -rhamnosy 1-6-methoxyluteolin）及藤菊黄素（patuletin）。
【性味】
性寒，味苦。
【功能主治】
清热，凉血，解毒。用于流行性乙型脑炎早期、流行性出血热初期、麻疹。
