是张家界的黄金旅游区,全长5700米,溪水发源于土地垭,从张家界林场场部到水绕四门,蜿转曲折,幽静异常,随山而移,穿行在峰峦幽谷云间,迤逦延伸于鸟语花香之中。因溪水流经金鞭岩而得名。金鞭溪全长6.5公里,自西向东贯通森林公园,两岸奇峰屏列,风光如画,嬉戏的鸟兽、古奇的树木、悠然的游鱼、景色显得异常幽静。金鞭溪所经之地被誉为“世界上最美丽的峡谷”。主要景致有醉罗汉、神鹰护鞭、金鞭岩、花果山、水帘洞、劈山救母、千里相会、楠木坪、水绕四门等。其中,金鞭岩拔地而起380多米,整块岩石为石英砂构成,在阳光的照耀下反射出熠熠金光,使 得这根“石鞭”被冠以“金”的定语。金鞭岩身边一山峰状若护雏的老鹰,威风凛凛,日夜守护着“金鞭”,故而被称为神鹰,这片景得名“神鹰护鞭”。一块巨大的岩石从当中裂开,取名为“沉香救母”。这缘于一个古老的传说:一个叫沉香的孩子,他的母亲因触犯天条被压在了山脚。小沉香为救母亲,苦练本领,最终用利斧劈开山峰,救出了母亲。“花果山”、“水廉洞”是美猴王孙悟空的天下,在《西游记》里早已为人们所熟悉。总之,这一段景色犹如世外桃源,不能不令人流连忘返。水绕四门为金鞭溪与矿洞溪、龙尾溪汇合处,溪谷宽阔,御案峰奇秀迷人,万岁牌传说神秘。
