生物塘法，又称氧化塘法，也叫稳定塘法，是一种利用水塘中的微生物和藻类对污水和有机废水进行生物处理的方法。生物塘法的基本原理是通过水塘中的“藻菌共生系统”进行废水净化。所谓“藻菌共生系统”是指水塘中细菌分解废水的有机物产生的二氧化碳、磷酸盐、铵盐等营养物供藻类生长，藻类光合作用产生的氧气又供细菌生长，从而构成共生系统。不同深浅的塘在净化机理上不同；可分为好氧塘、兼氧塘、厌氧塘、曝气氧化塘、田塘和鱼塘。好氧塘为浅塘，整个水层处于有氧状态；兼氧塘为中深塘，上层有氧、下层厌氧；厌氧塘为深塘；除表层外绝大部分厌氧；曝气氧化塘为配备曝气机的氧化塘；田塘即种植水生植物的氧化塘；鱼塘是放养鸭、鱼等的氧化塘。
