布氏拟龟(blanding's turtle,emydoidea blandingi)

外观形态:体长5- 10 1/2" (12.7-26.8 cm)。下颚和咽喉部呈亮黄色,凭此立刻就可以将它于那些晒背族们区别开来。背甲光滑,型如钢盔,色黑,上面有许多形状不规则、呈放射状排列的细点和蠕虫纹。腹甲具有铰链关节,黄色,并带有对称分布的黑色大型斑块。颈长,头部扁平,眼睛突出。雄性的腹甲轻度内凹。

繁殖:六到七月间筑巢产卵。产卵8枚左右,卵呈椭圆型,灰白色,长1 1/2" (38 mm)。八月至九月,稚龟出壳。

栖息环境:底部松软、植被丰茂的池塘、沼泽、小溪,以及湖泊的浅水区。

分布范围:五大湖地区,向西到内布拉斯加州。在新罕布什尔州南部、马萨诸塞州和纽约州的东部都有隔离的种群。

本种极为耐寒。它们以水栖为主,但时常会到陆地上来晒背,或者寻觅昆虫和蜗牛。它们生性羞怯,常在麝鼠窝或圆木上晒背,一旦受到惊扰,则会逃遁而去。
