A field investigation of the Phalaris arundinacea ramet height, ramet biomass, and biomass of leaves, sheaths, and stems was conducted in two different habitats of the natural grassland of Xiliao-River Plains.

The distribution patterns of spikelets and forets in conical spikes of Phalaris arundinacea,Dactylis glomerata and Festuca arundinacea showed that their spikelets and florets on each node were in Weibull distribution,and all grew in saturation curves along with the increase of node order.

禾本科虉草属中的一个种,学名Phalaris arundinacea L.。多年生草本,优良饲草作物。原产欧洲、北美和亚洲。分布在全世界温带地区。中国华中、华北及江苏、浙江等地有分布。
根系发达,有根茎,秆直立丛生,叶丛高1m左右,抽穗后高可达1.5m;叶片长10-25cm,宽0.5-1.5cm;总状花序。顶生,花两性,异花授粉;种子(连稃)褐黄色,卵形,光亮,有毛茸,千粒重(连稃)0.85g左右。2n=14;28;42。
喜温暖湿润气候,常生于多水的湿地,抗寒性较强,在北京可越冬;在南京可越夏;越冬植株在5月中旬开始抽穗,6月上旬盛花,7月上旬成熟。每公顷产种子230-450kg。
可用种子播种,也可以根茎分株繁殖。北方可春播也可秋播在南方以秋播为宜。条播行距30-40cm,播深2-3cm,每公顷播种量15kg左右。分株栽植时,按40cm开行,将分蘖排成行,埋土深5cm左右,土壤干旱,则应灌水。每公顷产鲜草30-60t。鲜草含干物质23.8%,粗蛋折质4.5%,粗脂肪1.0%,粗纤维6.2%,无氮浸出物9.3%,灰分2.8%,钙0.13%,磷0.055%。
