建山镇地处高安市西南端，镇政府所在地距高安城区56公里，距邻近县市新余、樟树、上高均为50公里左右。境内驻有江西省煤炭集团总公司所属的英岗岭矿务局。该镇1985年建镇，下辖12个村委会，1个居委会，129个自然村。全镇农业人口15263人，土地面积112.6平方公里，其中山林面积74322亩，耕地面积38540亩，水面面积1553.4亩。镇境内交通方便，且有张建铁路穿过，全程4.2公里。
