近年来,唐竹、橄榄竹、少穗竹为福建观赏竹开发生产及园林应用中极具观赏价值与应用前景的特有竹种,针对在竹种的形态特征上还存在模糊认识等问题,对这三个竹种的形态特征、生物学特征及在园林应用进行了研究。

唐代雕竹人物花鸟纺尺八 唐代竹刻珍品。日本正仓院所藏文物，为唐时由我国赍往。雕竹尺一管，长43.5厘米、吹口径2.33厘米。三节，遍体纹饰。擫孔正面五，背面一。孔之四周及节之上下，均有图案花纹。管上分布仕女、树木、花草、禽蝶形象，纯是唐风，与同时期之金银器镂錾及石刻线雕，同一风格。刻法为留青筠技法，纹饰外都刻去以为地。纹样上再施阴文浅雕，生动有致。可证竹刻留青之法，唐代已有。
