主要分布在仙居县境内,其东北角延伸至临海市西部,呈东北——西南向带状分布。东西向直线长63公里,南北向宽约6公里。盆底海拔,西部120米,东部10米,永安溪贯穿其中,沿途呈砂砾质溪滩发育。盆地南北有括苍山与大雷山挟持,周边形态基本保持白垩系红色岩层形成时轮廓。盆内呈红岩高丘与低丘发育,间有横溪碧丹崖、林下小方岩、羊棚头四十五洞等丹霞地貌。红色高丘把盆地分割成仙居县横溪、田市、城关、下各与临海市白水洋5片。横溪片以高丘、谷底平原与冲积扇为主。田市片与仙居城关片以冲积扇为主。下各镇片为溪滩、冲积扇、低丘与堆积阶地,土质较肥沃。白水洋片以低丘与冲积扇为主。
