【性状】
本品呈椭圆形或卵圆形，长2～5cm，直径1～3cm。表面白色至黄白色， 略粗糙，有环纹及须根痕，顶端有茎痕或芽痕。质坚硬，断面白色，粉性。无臭，味淡 、麻辣刺舌。
【鉴别】
本品横切面：木栓细胞有时残存。内皮层不明显。薄壁组织中散有大型 黏液腔，外侧较大，常环状排列，向中心渐小而少，黏液细胞随处可见，内含草酸钙针 晶束。维管束散列，外韧型及周木型。薄壁细胞含众多淀粉粒。 粉末黄白色。淀粉粒甚多，单粒球形或类球形，直径2～29μm，脐点点状、裂缝状 或人字状；复粒由2～12 分粒组成，以2～4分粒者为多见。草酸钙针晶散在或成束存在 于黏液细胞中，针晶长约至97(136)μm，螺纹、环纹导管直径9～45μm。
【炮制】
生白附子 除去杂质。 制白附子 取净白附子，分开大小个，浸泡，每日换水 2～3 次， 数日后如起黏 沫，换水后加白矾（每100kg白附子 ，用白矾 2kg），泡1日后再进行换水，至口尝微 有麻舌感为度，取出。将生姜片、白矾粉置锅内加适量水，煮沸后，倒入白附子共煮至 无白心，捞出，除去生姜片，晾至六七成干，切厚片，干燥。 每 100kg白附子，用生姜、白矾各12.5kg。 本品为类圆形或椭圆形厚片，周边淡棕色，切面黄色，角质。味淡，微有麻舌感。
【性味与归经】
辛，温；有毒。归胃、肝经。
【功能与主治】
祛风痰，定惊搐，解毒散结止痛。用于中风痰壅，口眼{歪}斜,语 言涩謇，痰厥头痛，偏正头痛，喉痹咽痛，破伤风；外治瘰疬痰核，毒蛇咬伤。
【用法与用量】
一般炮制后用，3 ～6g。外用生品适量捣烂，熬膏或研末以酒调 敷患处。
【注意】
孕妇慎用。生品内服宜慎。
【贮藏】
置通风干燥处，防蛀。
