| 蚕蛾 Bombycidae；silkworm moths 鳞翅目蚕蛾科的通称。主要分布在埃塞俄比亚区和东洋区。在中国已知10多种。成虫中型。体粗壮。无喙，不取食。雌、雄触角均为栉状。足有绵毛。幼虫身体光滑，第8腹节背面有一短角突，化蛹前幼虫吐丝结茧。蚕是世界丝蚕，原产中国，已传布世界各地。由野生驯化为家饲，在中国已有4000多年历史。各地已育种分化为许多品种，丝色有白有黄。寄主为桑。
