小五台位于张家口市东南部，跨蔚县、涿鹿两县。一年中温差大，降水大且时间集中，风大、寒冷、冻冷时间长，无霜期短等。小五台山区水资源比较丰富，主要山谷皆有溪河。五个主峰成为天然的分水岭。北、西两台之水注入洋河。南、中两台之水入壶流河。东台之水注入拒马河。其最高峰东台海拔为2882m，相对高度约1800米，距离北京约180km。谁也想不到在塞外高原上突兀而起的小五台山，里面竟是保持的很好的原始森林。春天 繁花异草布满山谷，充沛的山溪水从两千四百多米高的山上曲曲弯弯丁冬而下，高山草甸上6月山花遍野，金莲花以及无名小花相互斗艳。
