茅岩河风景区位于湖南四大水系之一的澧水上游，距张家界市60多公里，于1986年首创橡皮舟漂流旅游项目。1992年被列为省级风景名胜区。茅岩河全长50多公里，两岸全是悬崖峭壁，河段多险滩、急流、瀑布、古木，有“百里画廊”之美誉。乘橡皮舟顺水而下，时而急，惊心动魄，时而缓，悠哉游哉。一路赏夹岸奇山异峰，又可领略水上激情，二者可兼得。主要的景点有血门沟、洞子坊、茅岩滩、茅岩瀑布、温泉等30多处。其中茅岩瀑布和温泉最为壮观和最具特色。
