在离市区25公里的南坑坪村，一道50米高的大坝，将安福、莲花、萍乡交界处分水岭流出的水拦住，一座水面达1050亩、总库容1820万立方米的人工湖象一轮明月镶嵌在群山之中，这就是明月湖。
明月溯湖水明澈，湖面粼粼波光，象丝绸上的细纹一般：岸边树木繁茂，郁郁葱葱：山是青翠欲滴，水是波光倒影：湖因山色秀，山因湖水活；山环水绕，山水一色。人绕湖转，景随人移，处处是景，令人目不暇顾。著名景观有“瀑布群”、”婆婆岩”和半原始森林、映山红王国。明月湖气温低，平常要比市区气温低8一9度，入山便息汗，是夏季避暑和休养的好场所、人称明月湖度假村是萍乡的“北戴河”。在平静的、琉璃似的湖面上，配有机帆船、快艇和小船，供游人们游览。可乘快艇在宽阔的水面上任意畅行，也可泛小舟于碧水之上潇洒漫驶，任清风呼呼在耳边吹过，要多惬意有多惬意。
