钨-现代工业的基础元素 钨，化学周期系第vi类副族元素，原子序数74．自从1879年爱迪生发明了灯泡以来，金属钨便大显神通．白炽灯、碘钨灯和真空管中的灯丝，都是用钨丝做成的．因为钨是熔点最高的金属，它的熔点高达3410℃，当白炽灯点亮的时候，灯丝的温度高达3000℃以上，因此它素有“烈火金刚”之美称． 钨最初是从瑞典出产的一种当时称之为“重石”的白色矿石当中发现的．1781年瑞典化学家舍勒把这种矿石进行分析，证明其中并不含锡，也不含铁，只含有石灰和另一种特殊的固体物质．舍勒称此物质为“tungstic acid”(钨酸)，并且认为，将钨酸还原，有获得一种新金属的可能．当时称之为“重石”的矿物，现在知道它的主要成分就是钨酸钙，是含钨的重要矿石，称它为白钨矿． 1783年，西班牙的两位化学家德鲁亚尔兄弟从瑞典的一种黑褐色的矿石中，也得到了已被舍勒所发现的钨酸．于是他们将钨酸和木炭粉末的混合物，放在一只密封的泥制坩埚中用高温进行灼烧．灼烧完毕，待坩埚冷却，将盖移去，发现坩埚中生成一种黑褐色的金属颗粒。用手指一碾就成了粉末，在放大镜中观察，是一些有金属光泽的颗粒，这便是金属钨．现在知道，德鲁亚尔兄弟所研究的黑褐色的矿石就是钨锰铁矿，也叫黑钨矿，是钨的另一种主要矿物．舍勒给这种新金属取名为“tungsten”(钨)，命名取意“重石”，拉丁语名源于“woulfe”，取符号为w。 十九世纪末到二十世纪初，钨作为钢的添加剂用于冶金工业，以后又用钨作为灯泡的灯丝，具有延性的钨材料制备新方法的诞生，以及碳化钨硬质合金的使用，使它的应用范围扩大了，特别是在六十年代航空和宇航等尖端科学技术的发展中，它就显得格外重要了． 钨的最重要用途之一就是用它制备具有超硬性能的硬质合金，其用量占整个产量的50%，在现今的工业中到处可见使用硬质合金的例子，如我们常说的合金刀头，用它们切削工件时可成倍甚至成百倍增加使用寿命，在量具的易磨损的工件表面上镀以碳化钨硬质合金能提高其精度并延长寿命20～150倍：硬质合金还是重要的模具材料，用它作热压模、冷拉摸具其耐磨性能最佳，可提高寿命20～200倍；硬质合金还大量用于耐磨制件上如采矿工业用的采掘设备、石油勘探用的钻头、冷轧箔材的轧辊等．如果没有以钨为基础的硬质合金狠难想象有今天的现代工业． 金属钨第二个重要的用途是作为钢和有色金属合金的添加剂．钢中含有钨时可使钢回火稳定性、红硬性和抗腐蚀能力大大增加，现在工业上生产的性能优异的合金工具钢、高速工具钢、热锻模具钢、结构钢、弹簧钢、耐热钢和磁钢等都添加了钨等．有统计报导钨产量的20％以上是用于这方面的． 钨的另一重要用途，也就是在火箭、导弹、返回式宇宙飞船以及原子能反应堆等尖端科学上的重要应用．这是由于钨具有优异的物理、机械、抗腐蚀和核性能的原因．如钨合金在1900℃的高温下，强度仍有44公斤／毫米2，在这样高温下，无论是钢还是耐热的超级合金也都熔化成液体了，钨主要用来制造不需要冷却的各种类型火箭发动机喉衬；用渗银钨做成喷管可经受3100℃以上的高温，用于多种类型的导弹和飞行器；用钨纤维复合材料制作的火箭喷管能耐3500℃或更高温度在化工工业中可做耐腐蚀设备和部件，可做润滑剂、颜料和各种反应的催化剂。 钨在地球上稀少，但我国的钨矿藏量极为丰富，占世界第一位，其中以江西大康山脉最多．此外广西、广东、湖南等地也都盛产钨
