Base on the slope survey on the roadcuts of Chongqing-Qijiang and Qijiang-Wansheng super-highways in red beds, the paper presents a concept of M-shaped roadcut slopes and their features, briefly analyzes the composition and characteristics of rock and residual soil in red beds, and discusses the types of hazards and the causes for forming M-shaped slope.
