在云南腾冲的来凤山下，在气势雄浑的叠水河边，长眠着抗日远征军的八千英灵。这，就是建于祖国西南“极边第一城”腾冲的国殇墓园。
腾冲国殇墓园始建于1945年1月，占地80余亩，是腾冲人民为纪念中国远征军第二十集团军攻克腾冲阵亡将士而建立的陵园，也是 全国建立最早、规模宏大的抗日烈士陵园。
1944年夏，为了完成打通中缅公路的战略计划，策应密支那驻印军作战，中国远征军第二十集团军以六个师的兵力向占据腾冲达两年之久的侵华日军发起反攻，经历大小战斗80余次，于9月14日收复腾冲城，敌藏重康美大佐联队长以下6000余人全部被歼，我军亦阵亡少将团长李颐、覃子斌等将士8000余人，地方武装阵亡官兵1000余人，盟军（美）阵亡将士19名。
岁月沧桑，逝者如斯。半个多世纪过去了，中国社会经历了翻天覆地的变化，然而，岁月并没有抹去侵略者的罪孽，更不能忘记抗日军民勇赴国难、视死如归的悲壮！今天，当我们打开历史的尘封，记录下腾冲国殇墓园的一个个镜头，并把它们清晰地展现在世人面前。它是历史的见证，是对后世子孙最好的、最生动的爱国主义教育。
