    　　法国诗人。1866年中学毕业后，在巴黎市政府当小职员，同时开始写诗。在帕尔纳斯派刊物上发表过诗和散文,但不属于这个流派。第一部诗集《感伤集》(1866)中已显露出他的诗歌独具的特点：惶惶不安的情绪和富于暗示的音乐性。
　　
　　魏尔兰意志薄弱，行为不检，但没有掩盖住渴求温情的心。他的诗集《戏装游乐图》(1869)，描写诗人内心的憧憬和想望，笼罩着一种不安的气氛，反映出诗人怅惘和渴望单纯、诚挚的心情。
　　
　　1871年，他被市政府当局以同情巴黎公社的嫌疑而解雇。同年，偕同诗人兰波流浪到英国和比利时，在比利时因枪击兰波被判处两年徒刑。在流浪期间写成的诗集《无题浪漫曲》（1874）是他创作的高峰，抒发了诗人焦急的欲望和婉约的情思，日常生活的欢乐和痛苦构成一片轻灵婉丽的音乐。他在狱中皈依了天主教，诗集《智慧集》(1881)充满宗教和忏悔的情绪。
　　
　　1890年左右，魏尔兰被年轻的象征派诗人们奉为诗坛魁首。他晚年生活十分潦倒颓废。他的诗歌的主调就是在颓废中挣扎而无法自拔的痛苦。他的艺术特色正如他在《诗艺》这首诗中所说，"首先是音乐"，其次是"明朗与朦胧相结合"。
