计成(1582~?)

    中国明末造园家。字无否,号否道人。苏州吴江人。少年时代即以善画山水知名。宗奉五代画家荆浩和关同的笔意,属写实画派,因而喜好游历风景名胜。青年时代到过北京、湖广等地。中年回到江南,定居镇江,转事造园。在一次参观堆假山作业中提出了应按真山形态堆垛假山的主张,并动手完成了这座假山石壁工程。作品形象佳妙,宛若真山,于是名闻遐迩。明天启三至四年(1623~1624),应常州吴玄的聘请,营造了一处面积约为5亩的园林。他的代表作还有明崇祯五年(1632)在仪征县为汪士衡修建的寤园,在南京为阮大铖修建的石巢园,在扬州为郑元勋改建的影园等。他创作旺盛期约在明崇祯前期。他根据丰富的实践经验整理了修建吴氏园和汪氏园的部分图纸,于崇祯七年写成中国最早的和最系统的造园著作——《园冶》,被誉为世界造园学最早的名著。计成还是一位诗人,时人评价他的诗如“秋兰吐芳,意莹调逸”,但诗作已散佚。
