阿库拉精英赛也是一项历史较为悠久的比赛。1984年首届比赛奖金总额仅为5万美元，到2003年总奖金就提高到100万美元。比赛每年暑期在美国的加州的carlsbad举行，也是美网前的重要热身赛，也吸引了女子网坛的几乎所有好手前来参赛。2004美国的达文波特击败俄罗斯的米斯金娜获得冠军。2005年的比赛将在7月30日到8月7日进行。总奖金为130万美元。单打冠军将获得189,000美元的奖励，亚军也有96,000进账。双打冠军可获得57,000美元，亚军奖金为29,000美元。参加单打正选赛的有56名选手，资格赛有16名选手，双打有24对球员参加。
