| 荆江 长江自中国湖北省枝城市到湖南省城陵矶段的别称。长约430千米，因属于古代的荆江而得名。有上荆江和下荆江之分 。上荆江（枝城—藕池口），河道比较稳定 ；下荆江（藕池口—城陵矶），河道蜿蜒曲折，素有九曲回肠之称。荆江北岸是江汉平原，南岸是洞庭湖平原，地势低洼，由于荆江河道弯曲，洪水宣泄不畅，故极易溃堤成灾，有“万里长江，险在荆江”之说。为了抗御洪水，历代在荆江北岸修筑有荆江大堤。 |
