| 当铺 pawnshop 收取动产作为抵押，向对方放债的机构。旧称质库、解库、典铺，亦称质押，又有以小本钱临时经营的称小押。当铺按借款人提供质押品的价值打折扣，贷放现款，定期收回本金和利息。当铺接受抵押物品后 ，付以收据 ，称为当票，交抵押人收执 ，据以偿还本利 ，赎回抵押物品。逾期不赎，即成死当，抵押物品由当铺没收。在南朝时，已有寺院兼营典当放款，称长生库。自宋代以后贵族官僚多有经营当铺者。在历史上当铺是高利贷资本盘剥农民和小手工业者的机构 。一般对抵押品压低估价，有十值当五者，贷款期限短而利息高，剥削严重。中华人民共和国建立后一度停止营业。90年代以后，在改革开放的新形势下，当铺以新的形象在中国社会出现。
