桂林中学是广西壮族自治区重点中学和示范学校。桂林中学始建于1905年，初名“广西桂林府中学堂”，后校名数度变更，至1959年最后定名为“桂林中学”。
桂林中学位于桂林市解放西路。学校占地面积4公顷，现有校舍建筑面积25000平方米。2002年学校有高中班30个，在校学生1630人。教职员工共140人，其中教师115人。教师当中，有高级教师61人，一级教师34人。
桂林中学是一所有着较长的办学历史，有良好的传统和校风，有自己的办学特色和较高的教育教学质量，在自治区内外有一定影响，在全国著名高校中有着良好声誉的高级中学。1988年以来，桂林中学先后被国家教委，国家体委和广西区教委评为“全国德育先进校”，“全国贯彻体育条例先进学校”，“广西（首批）示范学校”。
