在一定条件下对系统的参数进行估计时，随着测量数据的增多，参数的估计值向其真实值逐步逼近的性质。收敛性是参数估计理论的一个重要内容。在研究参数估计的收敛性时常用的工具是概率方法，它适用于固定样本的估计和递推估计（见递推估计算法）。20世纪70年代后期，出现常微分方程方法，它是从研究估计值的内插曲线的尾函数性质来推断参数估计的收敛性的。后来又出现将上述两种方法结合起来的研究方法。
