The performances of modulation schemes,OOK(on off key),PPM(pulse position modulation),DPPM(differential pulse position modulation) and DPIM(digital pulse interval modulation),used in optical communication over the atmospheric turbulence channel were analyzed and compared in terms of packet error rate(PER) and bandwidth efficiency.

In this paper,the modulation structures,bandwidth requirement,transmission capacity,power requirement and packet error rate performance of the typical modulation schemes OOK,PPM and DPIM for atmospheric optical wireless communications are analyzed,combined with the characteristic of the atmospheric optical wireless channel.
