“伙伴”杀手卫星是以“深网/北斗”为基础而专门开发的杀手卫星。其特点是:时时与敌目标卫星保持在一定的距离内,形影不离的样子酷似伙伴,一旦发生危机则立刻扑上去消灭敌卫星。(a)“伙伴”杀手卫星也是一种微型卫星,其重量也被控制在十几公斤至几十公斤左右,有利于实现隐蔽、大量部署;(b)通常被部署在距目标卫星20-200公里之内,接到攻击指示后能以500-1000米/秒的速度在1至5分钟内击中目标;(c)“深网/北斗”也是“伙伴”杀手卫星得以实施的关键。其原因与寄生星使用“深网/北斗”系统相同:地面测控的难度和工作量大大减轻,只要测出敌卫星的参数就行了,其余的诸如跟踪伴随、攻击目标都可以由“伙伴”杀手卫星以利用“深网/北斗”提供的导航数据自主完成。(d)制导相对简单,因为速度不快且是在跟踪的基础上相对低速地接近,所以制导系统相对简单,这也有利于降低“伙伴”杀手卫星的成本;(e)“伙伴”杀手卫星具备寿命结束前退出轨道的能力,主要是利用自身的动力退出轨道返回大气层销毁。这是防止因大量部署杀手卫星产生过多的太空垃圾最终损害自己的利益。
