性质:在一些化学反应系统中,存在着活性很高的中间物粒子如自由基、自由原子等,它们与系统中的稳定分子进行反应时,不但使稳定分子发生化学变化,而且在旧的活性中间物粒子消失的同时又产生出新的活性中间物粒子。通过活性中间物粒子的反复再生促使反应像链条一样一环接一环地进行下去的这类化学反应称为链反应,也可称为连锁反应。其活性中间物称为链载体(chain carrier)。链反应历程(chain reaction mechanism)一般包含链引发、链持续、链终止等三种步骤。链引发是系统中最初生成链载体的步骤;链持续是链载体与系统中的反应物分子相作用、同时旧的链载体消失、新的链载体生成的步骤;链终止是链载体消亡而不再生成的步骤。许多化学反应如HCl的气相生成反应,一些烃、醛、醚的热分解反应,乙烯类加成聚合反应是链反应的例子。
