真清,字象先,姓罗,长沙湘潭人。少强记绝人。年十五,补诸生。十九,遘家难,遂投南岳伏虎岩,依宝珠和尚,剃发受具。看无字话,因舟触岸,有省。珠化去,清驻锡觉皇寺,患背疾,梦关云长授之药,病愈。南游天台,结茅居焉。迁华顶天柱峰,修大小弥陀忏六年。暇则开演十乘,阐明三观,学者归附日众。应居士王太初请,就永明禅室,讲观经妙宗钞百日。居常日勤五悔,密持观经,及梵网心地品。一夕,梦琳宫绮丽,宝树参差,见阿弥陀佛,观音势至二菩萨。方展拜间,旁有沙弥,授以一牌。书曰,戒香熏修。寤,知中品往生之象也。万历三十一年正月,抱疾。尽出所储,付五台、云栖、西兴诸寺饭僧。有进药石者,却之曰,吾净土缘熟,圣境冥现,不久辞世,药何为乎。正月七日,绝粒,唯饮檀香水,期于二十九日告终。与众说无生法,诲谕甚切。至二十九日夜,起别众曰,吾逝矣。众请曰,和尚往生净土,九品奚居。曰,中品中生也。众曰,胡不上品生耶。曰,吾戒香所熏,位止中品。言毕,泊然而逝。延五日,颜色红润如生。茶毗日,香气充郁,骨锵锵有声,年五十七。(明高僧传)
