【生命价值理论】又称“新损害理论”。美国保险学家5.5.休伯纳于1924年提出的关于人寿保险性质的学说。他认为人的生命价值是可以确定的，测定的依据是个人的潜在财产。所谓潜在财产就是一个人每月的赚钱能力或工资收人除去本人生活费用后的剩余部分的资本化价值。资本化是把净收人余额存人银行或通过其它途径使其增值。若一个人每月收人不够维持生活费用，就谈不上资本化，也就无所谓资本价值。休伯纳把一个人的财产划分为现实财产和潜在财产两大部分。现实财产指房屋、汽车等，潜在财产指工资、利息等，认为潜在财产是从生命的延续中得来的。投保人身保险就是谋求对生命价值的保障。依此，他主张财产保险是保现实财产的。生命价值理论在西方保险理论界产生很大的影响，但生命价值的确定至今仍存在实际困难。
