By turning the research focus to the target language, the skopos theory dethrones the original text, frees the translators from the shackle of absolute loyalty to the source text and allows them more freedom in choosing translating strategies.

| 目的论 teleology 用目的或目的因解释世界的哲学学说。认为某种观念的目的是规定事物存在、发展及其相互关系的原因和根据。其根本点是把自然过程拟人化，把目的这个只为人的活动所固有的因素强加给自然界。目的论有两种主要的表现形式，即外在的目的论和内在的目的论。前者认为世界上的事物之所以发生并秩序井然，都是神的目的所安排的。古希腊哲学家苏格拉底是外在的目的论的早期代表，到中世纪则为宗教神学所利用和发挥，成为宗教神学的核心思想。内在的目的论认为事物的必然性存在于目的性之中，进而把目的理解为事物的内在规定，是比必然性更高的原则。古希腊哲学家亚里士多德是内在的目的论的奠基者。 |
