描述UrticaL.荨麻属，荨麻科，约50种，主要分布于温带地区，我国有15种，产西南部至东北部，韧皮纤维可供织物用。草本，常被刺毛，触之觉奇痛；叶对生，有托叶；花单性，排成穗状花序或圆锥花序；花被片4；雄蕊4，与花被片对生，芽时内弯，成熟时向上和向外弯曲将花粉弹出；子房1室，有胚珠1颗。柱头大，毛帚状；瘦果包藏于宿存的花被内。
