古代使用的9种不同形制和用途的金属医针。首载于《灵枢》中。分别为：①针。长1.6寸，针头大而针尖锐利，用于浅刺泄热。②圆针。长1.6寸，针身粗大，针尖呈卵圆形，用于按摩皮肉。③镵针。长4寸，针身粗大而尖圆如黍粟，用于按脉候气，治疗脉气虚少者。④锋针。长1.6寸，针身为三棱形，针锋三面有口，十分锐利，用于刺络放血。⑤铍针。长4寸，宽2.5分，形如剑锋，用于排脓放血，治疗痈肿。⑥圆利针。长1.6寸，圆而且锐，针身中部微粗，用于治疗急性痹证。⑦毫针。长1.6寸或3.6寸，针身较细，针尖如蚊虻的口器一样尖锐，用于治寒热痹痛在经络者，能扶正祛邪。⑧长针。长7寸，针身较大，针锋锐利，用于病变位置较深的痹证，又称芒针。⑨大针。长4寸，针身粗，针锋微圆，用于关节水肿。今有古代九针的复制品(见图)。
