性质：指胶片在显影过程中，除生成染料外，同时释放出显影抑制剂的成色剂。其全称是释放显影抑制剂的成色剂，是功能性成色剂中最重要的一类。在乳剂层内能抑制卤化银显影，防止染料云扩大，改善颗粒性。在乳剂层横向面非影像部分扩散可强化影像边缘，产生边缘效应；它还能向相邻感光层纵向扩散，产生层间效应。两种效应的综合效果可提高胶片清晰度，改善彩色还原和色饱和度。
