磁铁矿 magnetite 成分为铁的氧化物(Fe3O4)的矿物。含铁量72.4%,是重要的铁矿石矿物,有时可直接用于平炉炼钢。若伴有钛、钒、铬等元素,可综合利用。可作为中药,具镇静安神功效。等轴晶系,晶体磁铁矿石标本常呈八面体,菱形十二面体。集合体呈块状或粒状。铁黑色,半金属光泽,莫氏硬度5.5~6.5,比重5.2。具磁性。分布广,有多种成因,如瑞典的基鲁纳为典型的岩浆矿床,智利的拉科磁铁矿是与火山作用有关的含铁矿浆直接溢出而形成。主要是由规模大、品位较低的沉积变质作用形成的,它常与赤铁矿一起产出。在海滨或河床中也常富集。
