一种精炼金属的方法。特点是:①用金属作原料,制成电极，借助某种热源重熔，在重熔过程中去除有害杂质和补加微量元素，金属基本成分不变；②于水冷结晶器内熔化金属，使凝固成成分均匀的金属锭，改善其结晶组织；③液态金属不与耐火材料接触，不受耐火材料沾染。二次重熔是获得高级优质材料的有效方法。
二次重熔按熔炼热源可分为四类:①电渣重熔(ESR)；②真空电弧重熔(VAR)（见真空冶金）;③真空电子束重熔(EBR)；④等离子弧重熔(PAR)（见等离子冶金）。各种方法的特征及比较见表。
