氢氟酸是氟化氢的水溶液，无色透明，溶点为-83℃，沸点为19.5℃。其分子能渗入皮肤，与组织接触后释出氢离子和氟离子。前者对组织有脱水作用和腐蚀作用；后者能与体内电解质生成多种盐类，这些盐类除氟化钙、氟化镁和氟化铅外都能溶于水，导致原生质毒的氟离子不断离解并渗到深层组织，溶解细胞膜，造成真皮、皮下组织乃至肌肉、骨骼坏死。氢氟酸的烟雾、粉尘被吸入或吞入可致吸入性损伤或慢性氟中毒。氢氟酸烧伤后出现进行性疼痛；局部苍白水肿，进而青灰或黑色坏死。伤后应立即用大量流动清水冲洗半小时以上，随即用5%碳酸氢钠溶液浸泡或湿敷，局部注射10%葡萄糖酸钙溶液或行钙离子直流电导入，以使氟离子与钙离子生成不溶于水的氟化钙，中止其腐蚀作用。出现较大面积较深的坏死、溃疡可手术治疗。北京积水潭医院配制的氢氟酸治疗霜剂临床治疗效果满意。
