海运，渔业和旅游是岛上居民的主要经济来源。奥兰岛人常以自己的古老航海传统而感到自豪。停泊在首府玛丽港西码头的四桅杆帆（pommern）是奥兰岛的象征，也是奥兰岛远洋船队漂洋过海的见证。现已入为博物馆供游人参观。奥兰岛的海洋博物馆是世界上最好的海洋博物馆之一，在玛丽港东边的船坞还可以看到传统船只建造的过程。

奥兰岛夏季气候宜人，处处是迷人的自然景色，是芬兰著名的旅游胜地。骑自行车在奥兰岛上旅游别有一番风趣。在岛上，游人可以租到自行车，并同时获得一份地图及指南，沿途有许多营地，度假别墅和民宿可供歇息。岛上还有一个36洞的高尔夫球场。除打高尔夫球外，如有兴趣，游客还可以在海边垂钓，乘船在海上游览打猎。
