| 加拿大北极群岛 Canadian Arctic Archipelago 加拿大北冰洋沿岸众多岛屿所组成的岛群。南起大陆北缘 ，北至埃尔斯米尔岛北端的埃尔德里奇海角 ，陆地面积130万平方千米。属大陆岛。第四纪冰期后海平面上升，与大陆分离。地形有平原、低地、高原、山脉等。北部各岛地势较高，为古生代褶皱山区，由花岗岩、片麻岩构成，以山地高原为主。埃尔斯米尔岛上的巴比尤峰海拔2604米，是群岛最高峰。群岛南部构造上属加拿大地盾向北延伸部分，由沉积岩构成，地势西高东低，以高原、平原为主。除巴芬岛外，均位于北极圈内，气候终年严寒，年降水量在200毫米以下，自然景观为苔原带。主要动物有狼、貂、北极熊、驯鹿、麝牛等。因自然条件严酷，尚未开发。 |
