【来源】
为伞形科植物硬阿魏的根。
【植物形态】
硬阿魏，又名：沙茴香。 多年生草本，高20～100厘米。根粗大。茎直立，基部有纤维质鞘，有分枝，苍白色。叶多半根生，无毛，卵形至三角形，长4～20厘米，2～3回羽状深裂，最终裂片楔形至倒卵形，长1～3毫米，宽1毫米，肥厚，极叉开，常3裂，具粗齿或裂片；叶柄长5～15厘米，茎生叶有短柄，具扩张叶鞘。复伞形花序；总花梗长15～30厘米；无总苞或有1～2片；伞幅7～15，近等长；小总苞片数个，条形，和花等长，粗糙，或缺如；花梗多数；花黄色。双悬果矩圆形，长10～13毫米，宽3～5毫米，扁平，无毛；果柄长12～20毫米，侧棱宽，具木栓质翅。花期5～8月。果期7～9月。 生于固定砂丘及砂质地上。分布辽宁、吉林、内蒙古、河北、山西、甘肃、陕西等地。 本植物的种子(沙前胡子)亦供药用，另详专条。
【采集】
新苗剐发出时采挖，除去地上部分及须根，洗净晒干。
【性味】
甘辛，凉。 ①《内蒙古中草药》："甘，平。" ②《中国沙漠地区药用植物》："苦辛，微寒。"
【功用主治】
解表，清热，祛痰，镇咳。治感冒发热头痛，肺炎，气管炎，咳喘胸闷，扁桃体炎，淋巴结核。 ①《内蒙古中草药》："清热，解毒，消肿，止痛，抗结核。治骨结核，淋巴结核，脓疡，扁桃体炎，肋间神经痛。" ②《中国沙漠地区药用植物》："解热，镇咳，祛痰。治感冒发热头痛，气管炎咳嗽、喘息、胸闷，大叶性肺炎。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，1～3钱(大剂量0.5～1两)。
【选方】
①治肋间神经痛，闪腰岔气：刚前胡二两。水煎，分二次服。(《内蒙古中草药》) ②治骨结核：刚前胡二两。水煎服，连服二个月。(《内蒙古中草药》)
